PEEPS® Flower Power Cookies

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pkg (15.25 oz each) Duncan Hines® Classic White Cake Mix
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 container (16 oz each) Duncan Hines® Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Assorted gel food coloring
  • 24 PEEPS® Brand Marshmallow Party Cake Flavored Chicks

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Blend butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla together in large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until well blended, about a minute. In a medium bowl, stir together cake mix and flour. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture and beat on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  3. Roll out 24 teaspoon sized portion dough balls and set aside for flower centers. With remaining dough, add food coloring to get your desired shade for the flower petals.
  4. Place the uncolored dough balls 4 inches apart from each other on parchment lined baking sheets. Roll out teaspoon sized portion balls from the colored dough and arrange 5 dough balls around each center. The petals should touch the center, but do not need to touch each other as they will spread during baking.
  5. Freeze the flowers on baking sheet for 30 minutes prior to baking.
  6. Bake cookies for 10 to 12 minutes, just until centers are set, and edges are lightly browned.
  7. Let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes, before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. To the center of each flower spread a small amount of frosting and top with a PEEPS® Party Cake Flavored Chick. Serve and enjoy!
